Server Plugin Help

Postby AMinecraftMaster » Sat Jan 10, 2015 7:23 pm

So I have a family server on MCProHosting and I was wondering what plugins I would want to do to make my server similar to IndieSquish. I have Multiverse Core and Nether Portals but Inventories and Portals don't show up, even though they are installed.
(By the way, I'm using Spigot. 99% of Bukkit plugins seem to work on it)
What plugins can I use to make it a family friendly community and so only family members can access our current world and only the others in case I use this server for multiple purposes?
(Plus, what plugins would do Message of the Day? Essentials is not up for 1.8)

For the family members only aspect couldn't you just create a whitelist?
And for the "message of the day" thing there's this; http://bukkit.org/threads/econ-dailybon ... 000.26862/ which is somewhat similar to what you're talking about, I think...although it was discontinued and possibly isnt compatible with recent minecraft updates.

Are you happy with MCProHosting? Would you recommend them?

To answer Meg: Technically, but I would like to have others to be able to come on, like, say, if I invited some Squishies on for an event. I could flick the whitelist on and off but it would be a pain. That's a possible solution, however.
Also, the plugin looks cool but it doesn't seem like it will work.
To answer James: MCProHosting has a great customer service, and server pricing dirt cheap. (That's actually one of the package options. Air, grass, dirt, stone, etc.) We pay about $10 per month for 18 players on our Spigot server. You can also switch to modded, but I don't know if it costs money. I'd say it's a pretty good deal overall!

You can set up a basic Message of the Day right in the Server Properties file that comes with vanilla Servers. It's a line in the text document that you can set for the message that shows up on the Server Login button on people's clients. That's called Message of the Day too...
but it sounds like you're referring to a different sort of message. Apologies if I just confused things.

Minecraftgeek70 - follow on question - WorldEdit's capacity for world breakage.. can you elaborate on that? I've been getting to know this plugin lately and would like to know what things I should be careful of.

AMinecraftMaster - for MOTD without essentials.. I've installed CommandBook on my Spigot 1.8 and it seems to work well. Maybe this is what you need? Hope this helps.

Ah I see. I was thinking breakage in terms of corruption and needing to restore from backup or something.

Thanks for the information! I will definitely be careful with it (and prefer the few commands that work with its undo feature over other commands!)

We've had experiences with WorldEdit before...it's gotten pretty crazy.

Fortunately, my worst one was just facing my character the wrong way in a paste, and placing my lot exactly kiddie-corner from where I wanted it. lol

By the way Wolf, MCProHosting doesn't seem to have that option so I'll have to go the plugin way. Thanks anyway!

What don't they have, AMM? Wolf said before that the MOTD is in the server.properties file.. and that's how I set mine...
- Login to your control panel.
- Click 'Files' on the left
- Click 'FTP Files Access'
- Scroll down and click on 'server.properties'
- Scroll down to find the line that starts with 'motd'
- Replace the text after the '=' sign with your message.

Hope this helps. :)

On the World Edit stuff.. really good info.. once again, thanks :)
I have had lots of issues with pasting in different orientations and rotating the clipboard.. try again.. nope wrong angle.. redo... ugh.. Need to pay closer attention to my orientation when copying and saving schematics.
