Notice of Downtime

Postby Fauxx » Sun Nov 15, 2015 12:29 am

The server is currently undergoing some very necessary maintenance and will be down for an amount of time that I am not sure of. Our vanilla server is already done, and is up. Thank you for your patience.

I honestly can't give an exact time frame. We're hoping to have everything back to normal as soon as possible.

Sadly, we lost all the beastsquish directory, including the backups, during the change of server.

I put another server up, using the config files I kept on my personal computer. The modpack is the same, the map seed is the same but reset.
I of course lost the up-to-date whitelist, so I put back the old one, sorry if you will have to ask yet again to be whitelisted on the server.

The following is very important, please read with care.
Our old maps & modpacks used up to 70% of the old server CPU. rusty don't want that anymore, and I agree. I will monitor very closely the cpu usage of the server. If it goes too high, we will LOST the FeedTheBeast server. It's that simple.
I will (haven't got the time yet) remove ALL the world chunk loaders. It is not the case yet, so if you play before I got the time to set this up, please use only personal chunk loaders.

Anyway. Server is up but not fully fonctionnal (haven't put back the /home command, for example), and is using around 20% CPU when I'm alone and using some machines, less than 2% when idling. so if nobody is online, I except to see 2%. If it's more, I WILL assume that someone is using a world chunk loader, and I WILL investigate.

Besides that, have fun, I'll see you soon online.

Hasn't been much making me want to play. Even before the reset there wasn't much I wanted to do, was just building a giant dino tank. Maybe after christmas when I get my new parts if only to test my new ssd and ram with something I know puts a hefty load on my system currently

I must say my motivation was a bit smashed by the loss of the map and I didn't event log on the server after the first set-up. will get to it someday and start over, this time with more awesomeness.

I'm hoping to build more stuff in the town this time and be more community-oriented somehow. I'll get on soon, but I'm busy this week because of all of the tests and homework that teachers are cramming in before Christmas break.

Hope to see you all on there, though!

I've been puttering around a bit. Have re-established a base of operations near my old one. Built far enough away from the nether biome to prevent the incessant spawning of ghasts.

I have noticed something with chunk loading that I thought worth mentioning. I had created a personal world anchor. However, it seemed like my energy collector kept collecting after I logged off. So I disabled the anchor with a lever, but it seemed to continue. So I removed it. Same thing. This morning, I loaded my collector with coal and logged off. When I logged back on this evening, it had transmuted it all to blocks of redstone and was full of energy. So it seems the chunk persists in being loaded, even with no world anchor present.

If you are close to actual spawn you may be in permanently loaded chunks. Try it a few hundred block out and see if it still works. also try a hopper above a chest. Fill it right before logging off and see if it all moved to the chest when returning

Great idea, Rarararawr. My base is over 400 blocks from spawn. I put a chest of cobble above a hopper above a chest. After I logged off, the hopper dumped the entire chest of cobble into the bottom chest.

I went an additional 500+ blocks from my base (1,000+ blocks from spawn). Tried it there, without an anchor, with an anchor, with an anchor disabled, etc. In every case, the cobble did not continue to drop after I logged out. I also had an energy collector there in case that was what was magically keeping the chunk loaded, but didn't matter. The energy collector also stopped collecting energy after I logged off (unlike at my base).

I put back the spawn commands. /spawn & /home, /sethome commands are available again.
